Vangelis

I knew Vangelis (Evangelos Odyssey Papathanassiou, best known as—) just about only for his famous original motion picture soundtrack for Chariots of Fire, and even that I basically listened to because I love Sir Hubert Parry's renowned arrangement to William Blake's Jerusalem (from his poem Milton). But last Tuesday I bought myself, among other CDs, a best of compilation of works by Vangelis, and I found that I very much liked it. My favorites (which happen to occur consecutively on the CD) are Sword of Orion, Alpha, Ballad (with two ‘l’'s, note) and To the Unknown Man. (I'd provide some samples for the reader to make up his mind on the subject, if fascist Intellectual Property laws didn't forbid me from sharing the music: too bad!)
