Comme je l'ai déjà dit dans ce 'blog, et je le redirai encore plusieurs fois dans les quelques jours à venir, je serai parti du 2003-06-24 au 2003-07-04 (autrement dit, en gros, les deux semaines à venir) en congrès (à Lens puis à Besançon). Je n'aurai probablement pas d'accès informatique du tout pendant ce temps (ou alors dans des conditions d'inconfort telles que je préférerai ne pas m'en servir). Il faut donc que je trouve de quoi me distraire, c'est-à-dire bonnes lectures.
Je suis allé faire un tour à la Fnac Italie 2 (c'est à cinq minutes de chez moi) cet après-midi, et j'ai été stupéfié par la nullité de leur choix, en fait ; il est vrai que le fait qu'ils n'aient pas de littérature en langue étrangère et que je refuse, moi, de lire de l'anglais traduit en français, n'aide pas.
En fait, je ne sais pas quoi acheter… Je n'ai pas envie de livres « prise de tête » parce que les congrès le seront déjà assez comme ça (il y a deux ans, quand j'étais allé à Lens pour le même congrès, j'avais lu Deepness in the Sky de Vinge, c'était déjà limite). Je lirais bien un livre de SF ou de heroic fantasy facile, mais il n'y en a pas des masses en français (je chercherai demain chez de meilleurs libraires, qui ont des livres en anglais ; reste à voir si j'en trouverai qui ne soient pas baignés d'une atmosphère glauque à souhait, ou formant un fragment d'une épopée interminable en cinquante volumes). Ou sinon, un roman bien ancré dans une réalité qui ne soit pas trop éloignée de ce que je connais.
Bref, si vous avez des suggestions, envoyez-les moi, mais très rapidement (en gros, d'ici samedi après-midi au plus tard). Surtout si vous avez une idée de mes goûts. À défaut, je me mettrai probablement en quête de l'Île du jour d'avant d'Umberto Eco, d'un quelconque roman de Mercedes Lackey que je n'aie pas encore lu, et d'un troisième roman acheté un peu au pif selon ce qui me passera par la main.

Actually, I don't know what to buy… I don't want anything too mentally straining because the congresses will be enough as it is (two years ago, when I went to Lens for the same congress, I read Vinge's Deepness in the Sky de Vinge, and it was already a bit much). I would gladly read some light SF or heroic fantasy, but there isn't much of it in French (tomorrow I will look in better book stores where they have English books; it remains to see if I can find some which isn't bathed in a morbid atmosphere, or forming a fragment of an endless saga in fifty volumes). Or else, a novel seated in a reality not too distant from that I know.
Anyway, if you have suggestions, send them to me, but very rapidly (essentially, until saturday afternoon at latest). Especially if you have an idea of what my tastes are like. Otherwise, I will probably look for the Island of the Day Before by Umberto Eco, a random novel by Mercedes Lackey that I haven't read, and a third novel more or less arbitrarily chosen as a function of what I can get my hands on.
